CHAPTER 16
Jerome was looking forward to the pub that night. Heâd had the kind of afternoon that Eddie, Terry, and Martin could only have dreamed about. Except that none of them could have dreamed about it, as they were all just as innocent and unaware of their bodies and what they could do with them as Jerome had been. He wanted to tell them all about sex and womenâs bodies but decided against it. It wouldnât have served any purpose. They were trapped in their own little worlds and, if he explained to them what had happened between him and Wren, he didnât know how they would react. Eddie and Emily couldnât meet in person, and nor could Terry and Martin. That was another thing. Terry and Martin were both males; one of them would need one of those pussy things wouldnât they? And, as males, they surely both had urinators. Maybe there was a way around this problem, but Jerome had no idea what it could be.
But Katâs situation was completely different. Well kind of. She was coupled with him. It would be a risk to tell her about Wren, but maybe she would have a visitor one day and he wanted her to be prepared. Heâd been scared out of his wits when Wren first came into his life and he didnât want Kat to go through that experience. He didnât really want any of his friends to face that situation, but he wouldnât feel comfortable telling everybody. Not yet anyway.
The group was pleased to see Jerome looking so happy; he was back to himself, laughing and joking. It had been disconcerting to think of him as anything less than running on all cylinders. None of them ever got sick, so they were at a loss to explain his recent behaviour.
After the others had gone offline, he was left alone with Kat, he in his coupling suit and she in hers. She went to pick up her control pad. Jerome held his hand up.
âLeave that there for the moment.â
âDonât you want to couple?â
âMaybe. But listen to what I have to say first. Do you remember the other day when I asked you if youâd ever thought about touching each other?â
âYes, and I said it was pointless thinking about it, it would never happen.â
âWell, I know what itâs like.â
âWhat do you mean? How could you?â
Jerome explained everything that had happened to him recently, from his first encounter with Wren to their lovemaking. She thought that he was making things up at first, but when he described Wrenâs body, Kat could recognise that this womanâs body was basically the same as her own. There was no way that Jerome could have known these things unless heâd actually seen and done what he said. Sheâd never shown anybody her naked body. In fact, nakedness was actually counter-productive to coupling. She suddenly felt not jealous, but envious. It didnât matter that heâd experienced these things with another woman, just that heâd experienced them and she hadnât.
